Hi Gail,

Thank you so much for your comment and your feedback. You hit the nail right on the head by naming it "instant gratification". Which is why I believe most women will hit up a cardio workout instead of a strength training workout.

When you as, do you mean is there any other way to feel instant gratification in a healthy way? If that is what you meant, well, I'd say yes and no. Emotionally, you can feel that instant gratification from an elevation in mood levels. Exercise increases endorphins and catecholamines which give us that feel good post workout feeling. Physically, you can feel more limber and mobile after a proper workout session but long term results, well, will take more time :)

Thanks again!

Hi Erick,

Thank you so much for your reply. And I agree with you on all points. I started using gelatin a few months ago, and I just feel better overall - better skin, digestion, and sleep.

I think its funny how most of my clients cringe when I mention cooking a whole chicken or eating chicken thighs with bones when those are parts I loooooooove! Especially porkchops on the bone, yum!

I didn't know that NOW had a gelatin, I'll have to check it out, thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks for reading, and look forward to having you around :)

Sirena

Hi Sirena, great topic on a wonderful supplement.

As soon as it was pointed out to me that gelatin as food has been systematically processed out of the western diet for the last 30-40 years, whereas before that it had been an integral part of the human diet for hundreds of thousands of years, all the benefits of gelatin clicked for me in a real-world way.

Lack of natural gelatin in our diet, through clean sources such as traditional bone broths, is more than likely a direct contributor to the alarming rise in diseases in our culture during these aforementioned last 30 years. Seriously, when was the last time the average American ate homemade real chicken soup from Granny's recipe instead of from a corprate chemically-proccessed-food can?

Since incorporating clean gelatin into my daily diet, I have personally: slept better, lost weight, stopped losing hair, noticed my skin getting smoother and laugh lines filling in, I don't feel depressed, my knees don't creak as bad as they used to, my workouts seem to go smoother, and I can keep up with the kids better.

Personally, I think everyone should make sure they get this stuff back into their diets as a regular part of their life. I've been using the NOW brand beef gelatin (because of how gelatin is made, it doesn't carry madcow), and I get it cheap online from a place called iHerb. It's tasteless and easy to cook with: I put it in my coffee, soups, teas, shakes, sprinkle it on yogurt, etc. Good stuff.

Thanks again for the great post. Next: sexy bacon fat!

I have given a fair amount of thought to this. You have often told me I am getting a good workout without the next day soreness. I have to admit while I appreciate not being sore all the time I do still like that feeling of soreness. This post made me ask myself-why? Today it hit me!!! So much of training and healthy eating and living show results over a long period of time. When I go to the gym I don't notice a 5 lb loss or 3 inch loss the next day. Soreness is the "instant gratification" of working out. So my question back to you is, is there any other times an individual can see this in a healthier way?

Since this was written on my phone. Sorry for the spelling/ grammar errors.

Hi Feather,

Thank you so much for your comment. This is precisely what I was pointing to. If we're not sore, or in pain, then it doesn't work, right? *sigh*

You did the right thing by taking a step back and re-evaluating your situation. Nice work, and I look forward to having you in March! Yippeee!

Wow...absolutely loved this blog! There are times where I will work out and really feel it for a couple days after and I get all excited bc I hurt. Then there are times where I will be in Spin class going insane on the bike and my legs won't hurt so then I get discouraged thinking, what the heck?! I used to work out daily with no excuses and lately, I find nothing but excuses to skip working out. The other day, I did take a step back and asked myself why the change and all and I am back on track now. I know we all fall off routines sometimes, but I am back on it and I've always loved working out...I have so much more energy from just doing 30 mins of cardio. The real test will be in March with your LBC! ;) *Feather*
